STEM Club Autumn 2 2019
What an exciting after school club, which allowed children to explore and develop skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Our main aim was to create a love of the STEM subjects and therefore we set out to think of fun and engaging activities that would excite and inspire the children, taking the lead from their initial interests.
One of the children’s favourite activities was bridge blunder, where they were challenged to create the strongest bridge. This was our very first activity and the children were excited right from the offset. They started by looking at the structure of bridges and what gave them their strength. The children looked at different shapes and thought carefully about load.
Another activity which really stands out was the vinegar, bicarbonate of soda and coke fountain, the initial explosion created a scream of delight, this then led onto discussion about why the reaction happened and went on to child led investigations about chemical reactions.
It was great to see so many pupils enthusiastic and motivated over STEM activities. Lots of problem solving, creative thinking and fun!
